A Word to Spuffy Shippers
Both these articles were from Whedon.info about Buffy and Spike's sexual relationship. It became very S&M and I felt degraded as an actress At a convention last year in Detroit I got the chance to talk to James Marsters and asked him about his feelings during this time on Buffy. This was a candid conversation and not in front of a room full of fans, but a room with 7-8 people present. He said Season 6 Sex Scenes was not only a difficult time for him personally but as an actor. There were several things that he did not want to do (Seeing Red bathroom scene in particular) and he went to the higher ups about it. They said if he didn’t do it then he would be sued for breach of contract. Which told him that he had no say in the matter of Spike, he was just to get out there and do the scenes no matter his feelings. Chances are even though Sarah was Buffy something like this happened. Yep she could have raised a huge stink about it and been fired or sued for breach of contract. Even big names have to play in the field with the Big Boys who are paying their checks. If you ever watch the dailies from Wrecked and Dead Things you can see the friction working against James and Sarah. They honestly don’t want to be there. Yes they were professional and got the job done but at what expense to their minds and their feelings. No amount of money paid to you can take away the feeling of being used and abused. So I feel that yes they were professionally and personally degraded. Their feelings (James and Sarah) about the scenes in Season 6 were completely justified. I would have felt degraded also. They said no and still had to do it, that is a virtual rape of a person’s standards and self respect. I can see why none of the actors are really behind a huge push for the movies, who would want to work on a set like that. I'm immensely anti-spuffy, their relationship was just pure sex and violence and very little good came out of it, except Buffy getting some feeling back, which even she despised. I do support what they had in late S7, which was more of a sibling like relationship. At least in their actions. I know Spike still loved Buffy, but Buffy got to a point where she cared about him and accepted that he loved her. Must I quote? Buffy: I love you. Spike: No you don't. But thanks for saying it. (For the rec- I support Buffy/Angel, Spike/Drusilla)

I'm not much of a Spuffy shipper either for the same reasons as you (Even though I just did a vid about it). I also didn't like it because Buffy is supposed to be a role model. However like you as well I liked Spuffy in late season 7.

It was sweet. They were sweet. But not in a "Go have sex" way. Plus it was very telling when Angel showed up at the very end, and how they "said hello with their tongues".

Tiger-Chan- 03-06-2007

well as someone who is a HUGE spuffy fan, i have to say that oh well they had to do the scenes thats what they got paid to do. There are TONES of actors and actresses who are renowned people (like Halie Berry for example) who do sex scenes and no bitching about it. There are going to be things that your not going to like to do but your an actor...it makes you grow as an actor. If they didnt like it so much then they should have demanded script approval rights.....thats my oppinion. but again..sex=good. ( as in their relationship in 6) I loved that it was raw and sexualy drivin. I have even had a time were i was spike...having feelings for someone that dosent have the same feelings as me. So i can relate. And its just HOT seeing them throwing eachother around and doing it lol. I hate the sappy love story like Angel and Buffy....it was puppy love. Spike and buffy were an adult kind of relationship. Anywhoooooo i think that is the most i have ever written LOL

BakaTulip- 03-07-2007

But even Buffy hated the relationship, something that was made quite clear when she broke down crying in front of Tara. Anyways, I can't really stand relationships that are driven by only sex like theirs. Probably because I cannot relate to them. I'm more interested in a relationship between two people who really really care than who really really just wanna have sex... possibly why my very favorite couple is W/T and I like W/K so much less because it's clear Kennedy wanted her in bed from day one... And the only "adult" I see in their relationship was "adult film" kind of adult. Neither of them were mature at all in that relationship. Buffy and Angel could manage things like adults, they knew thier limitations and lived around them *points to Forever* *points to End of Days/Chosen* *Points to I Will Remember You* *Points to Heartthrob* There's a lot more episodes I could point my finger at but Buffy's for Angel and Angel's for Buffy. But those two are more mature because they can accept a limit, where as Spike... Spike nearly raped Buffy when she tried to place a limit. I have always been a big believer that Spike does not know how to deal with emotions... ever. Until Touched. I think then he had the right idea.

Tiger-Chan- 03-07-2007

ok, point taken. BUT Spike didnt have a soul in season six...hmm right? Well that means that he had NO control over his emotions, were angel DID have a soul. After spike got a soul he changed...did he not? So the fact that he almost raped her was because he was acting on his animal instincts not his brian...cuz he was still an animal. S/B made her grow, learn. All her other relationships that she was "in love" in hurt her, she needed that no ties relationship to grow as a woman. But Spike truely loved her and went to change his ANIMAL side to get her to be with him. I think that is the swee-*test*-('") thing he could have ever done for her. And as for Kenedy...she was annoying from day one..i hated all the potentials.

BakaTulip- 03-07-2007

I actually don't hate Kennedy. She's interesting albeit bratty. I just don't want her near my Willow. *nod* And I never said Spike didn't love Buffy. He clearly did. Buffy never loved Spike that way though. Their relationship was one sided and selfish and abusive.

Tiger-Chan- 03-07-2007

And that what makes it interesting to watch. To see how far it would have went. And thats what makes it drama. We wouldnt have wanted to see that whole spike buffy relationship if it was JUST like B/A all over agian, it was done, tired, it would have been a lazy writing choice to do that. We watch a drama to see a variety of human/vampire (lol) emotions. As much as im a Spuffy fan for life, its just a show. Season 6 kept me watching, i stopped watching it durring season 4 on TV, cuz it was BORING. Not alot of drama. Then season 5 introduced us to the Sipke possibly loving Buffy, and season 6 blossemed their relationship.

BakaTulip- 03-07-2007

*sigh* I just can't agree with anything you've said. I hate Spuffy. I love season 4. And Buffy's more than "just a show". So I need to disengage or I'll get twitchy and it'll just be bad for my day.

Amaya- 03-07-2007

I will agree with Tiger-chan that rough sex= hot. Spike and Buffy going at it hardcore is... er... entetaining. However, the Spuffy relationship reminds me so much of all that friends with benefits crap. Their relationship is barely skin deep, which is why I hate Spuffy. I can't say that it was boring to watch their sexcapades, but it was the same thing over and over. I think Buffy's other relationships (especially B/A *waves the B/A fan flag*) had a lot more depth and feeling. But all in all, it was beneficial to the show in that caused a bit of character development. Buffy got a little feeling back and learned what an unhealthy, shallow, bad relationship was like. Spike matured a little more emotionally, and became a little less of "love's bitch" for it. And they all lived kinda happily ever after. The End.

Tiger-Chan- 03-07-2007

Friends with benifits its fun...i have been there. But again BUFFY IS JUST A SHOW, THERE IS NO NEED TO GET "TWICHY" about it. As much of a buffy fan as i am its just a show.... Her character comming back from the dead trying to be normal infront of her friends, but she was in a really dark place in reality. HENCE ONCE MORE WITH FEELING, when they find out. She used Spike as an outlet for her dark side. Like i already stated that to do a "buffy/angel" relationship AGAIN would be poor writing, she cant be static through the whole show...that would have been SO boring.

BakaTulip- 03-07-2007

Buffy is quite a bit more than just a show. It's really a piece of art, a work of literature. And don't yell at me. I haven't resorted to yelling at you. I never said I wanted another B/A... personally I think Buffy is best when she is on her own, not with a boyfriend, but with the fact that Angel is her soulmate in the background. I think she functioned well when not in a relationship, and he functioned well when not in a relationship, but they will always love each other and they're sweet around each other. They're very mature that they can stand that kind of relationship where they have a true love and don't act on it. Sexually at least, they still get their smoochies. And didn't I say, yes, she was in a dark place, being with Spike helped her feel. But that's all it was, helping her feel anything, it's shallow. She didn't love him, she just wanted something, she would've done more or less anyone at that point.

Amaya- 03-07-2007

No one is saying that it would have been better if it was B/A all over again, by the way. And I'm sorry to say that friends with benefits are for people too chicken to emotionally commit themselves to a relationship that's real and not just based on sex and sexual activities.

Tiger-Chan- 03-07-2007

So your saying im chicken??? You dont know me nor do you know my life, i wouldnt call me chicken. I will bite my tounge i dont need steve being mad at me....... And i wasnt yelling, i was trying to put my point accross in capitals, i wasnt yelling. And Buffy was great and i love it....but its just a show. Anyways.......

BakaTulip- 03-07-2007

I'm in agreement with Amaya on the FWB thing. Relationships need to be based on mutual love, couples on the show like (Willow/Tara, Buffy/Angel) and on other shows (Angela/Hodgins, Booth/Brennan, Susan/Mike) are the ones I respect the most. And saying you've "been there" doesn't really make me want to shower you with praise.
