Tiger-Chan- 03-07-2007

Again im going to bite my tounge about what you just said.....

Amaya- 03-07-2007

I'm sorry if you felt I called you a chicken, Tiger-chan. I didn't mean to. I just don't respect that kind of relationship, it's nothing personal.

It wasn't an attack at you. I think both Amaya and I were just saying that neither of us see too much value in the FWB "relationship". I'm a pretty open minded person, but it just gives me the shudders. And it's because Spuffy was pure sex, that's one of the reasons I greatly dislike it. I mean when it got towards the end, when they weren't having sex anymore and it was clear Buffy got past some of the emotional scarring from Seeing Red, she felt close to Spike the way a sister would be to a brother and it was sweet. When they were just lying next to each other in the middle of the sex montage, it made me go "Awwwww". But nothing, nothing will ever make me support them as a couple. It's the same kinda "Awww" I get when I see Cordelia and Wesley on Angel, they moved past the lust that wasn't meant to be and moved to a close caring that wasn't sexual. I would more readily support a sexual relationship between Faith and Buffy than Spike and Buffy... just because of the way they connect is different, and the connection is what's important. Plus that line in Revelations just makes me giddy: BUFFY: I wouldn't use the word 'dating', but I am going out with somebody. Tonight, as a matter of fact. WILLOW: Really? Who? FAITH: Yo, what's up? Hey, time to motorvate. BUFFY: (puts her arm around Faith) Really, we're just good friends. And I'll say it one last time. Not just a show. It's a world, and it's a world many people study and write essays about. I for one spend a lot of time thinking about the sociological impacts of the show, the destruction of societal myths, and the deconstruction of gender roles and stereotypes as well as trying to psychoanayze the characters. That's fun. My girlfriend is very into philosophy and focuses on those aspects of the show. She's working on a thesis about how Buffy and Faith embody different schools of philosophy. (Faith is Nietzsche.. I forgot who she said Buffy was... I think Rousseau.)

(Faith is Nietzsche.. I forgot who she said Buffy was... I think Rousseau.) I totally agree with this. There are many parallels with real life in Buffy, to cite an obvious one - Buffy sleeping with Angel and him changing. Haven't most of us or someone we know been in that kind of situation where we think we are doing the right thing by sleeping with someone because we love them only for them to act aloof and uncaring. Joss is the best writer in the world and Buffy should have had more recognition than it did (award wise) both for writing, directing and acting especially for The Body and Once More With Feeling. I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper and nobody will change my mind about that. I much preferred Spike when he was bad. He was funny and entertaining. The character development was good to watch though. He loved Buffy and although she didn't love him in that way I think she had grown to respect him and acknowledge the fact that he had changed. I think she did have feelings for him but not in the way she loved and still loves Angel. The raw animal passion of S6 was good to watch though but I preferred the S7 relationship they had. It seemed to have a bit more depth to it. Phew! Stick a fork in me I'm done!

Speaking of recognition, I know there is a group trying to get Joss a star on the hollywood walk of fame.

Steve- 03-08-2007

O cool I totally want to join that group.

Amaya- 03-08-2007

Me too.

Sticking my nose into an ongoing discussion... I don't think Buffy would have considered Spike a friend in BTVS S6, when she used him to feel something, anything after coming back from the dead. So IMO, the FWB issue didn't exist then. I believe she viewed him with contempt throughout the whole season, which was one of the reasons he attacked her in "Seeing Red," expressing his own self-loathing that he allowed himself to be used. I don't think Buffy began to consider Spike a "friend" until mid-season 7, after he'd come back to Sunnydale with a soul. Despite all the things Spike did for Dawn and Buffy in S6, his soulless state would have kept Buffy from embracing his friendship. The lack-of-soul would always have been between them, as Buffy tends to see most things in black and white. Spike without a soul? Usable but not friend material. Spike with a soul? More acceptable. But did Buffy ever love Spike? IMO, she didn't. I believe it when she told Spike at the end that she loved him, and he - after seeing into her heart and soul - said, "No, you don't." I believe she had grown to trust him and was truly beginning to value his friendship. But love? Not according to the writers and the way the story played out. If there had been a S8? Maybe, but I think the writer's would have deepened their friendship and left "love" out of the question. But I suppose we'll see in the comics, huh?
