Buffy Academia
I know some people around here got angry when I mentioned people do think of Buffy as more than a show. I recently found an online internation journal of Buffy Studies called Slayage. I intend to read it over the summer. Also a girl at my college is presenting her philosophy thesis on Buffy The Vampire Slayer next week, my girlfriend and I who are big Buffy philosophy fanatics are going. I'm not a phi major, I'm a psych major and am still looking at ways to work that into BTVS... I suppose I spend a good deal of time psychoanalyzing the characters... maybe I'll write up a thing on that. Oh I also recently came across a book... not so much came across because my girlfriend told me about it, but it was on display at the campus book store called "Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Philosophy" part of a series of pop culture and philosophy books... I bought the Sopranos one for my dad for his birthday. I'd be glad to tell you all what happens at the philosophy luncheon after it happens. but I was just wondering if anyone else out there was part of the academia circle.

I've read a few Buffy academic books. I read Fear and Trembling in Sunnydale (the philosophy one you mentioned) when I was a freshmen in high school, so I didn't understand a whole bunch of it. There is a class at my school that uses that book, so I might just have to take that class :) I've also read Slayer Slang. I know I've read other stuff (because I have almost every Buffy book ther is) but I can't think of them off the top of my head. I love incorporating Buffy into my work as much as possible. My English 102 research paper was "Cult Followings: Why People Are Drawn to the Buffyverse?" It was nice too, because my professor was a Buffy fan. In one of my friends English classes they were learning about the evolution of fairy tales, and they got to watch the first two eps. of Buffy in class I was sooooooooooo jealous. But you can't believe how often I involve Buffy in my school work...I find every way possible!!!! In 11th grade we had to do an issue investigation paper and mine was on School Bullying, so of course I included stuff from Earshot in there :)

I almost wrote my "challenging sexism" extra credit paper on BTVS for psychology... but then when I realized I was rambling and in no way answering the questions my teacher wanted me to answer... I switched to a personal example of dealing with a kinda skeezy car salesman who was trying to rip me and my mother off... I want to write more about BTVS... especially from a literary and psychological point of view... hey maybe I could work it into an honors thesis for psych... dunno how I would but it would be joyous. I own Slayer Slang... but I paid more attention to the dictionary in the back than the rest of the book. I didn't actually get into BTVS until... wow... just over a year ago. I can't believe it's both already and only been that long.
