Those all sound look cool majors and courses you guys are taking. I'd go to college if I could but circumstances prevent me. I'd love to get into writing or video editing type courses cause I just love the art of both and find good writing and good modern culture stuff.

Steve- 04-10-2006

I agree with you also slaygal, I realized I wanted to go into graphic design from doing fanart and my websites for the show :)

Jessie- 04-11-2006

i was always kinda of a creative kid, but i totally sucked at "fine arts" and harry potter kinda got me into the online world and into film making but buffy sealed the deal. i spend so much time working in photoshop and editing buffy stuff, i get really excited when something i do goes mainstream. like this week, the logo i designed for the school play was put on tshirts and eveyone was wearing it around school, i was *freakin* out haha

Steve- 04-11-2006

That's so cool...I wish I had an oppurtunity to do that :)

Yay college talk! Haha, it makes me so overexcited. I'll be going to Boston University in the fall at the College of General Studies. I have no idea what I really want to do in the future but I'm really interested in taking some art classes (since I go to an art high school now lol) and maybe minoring in Russian. I think it's a beautiful language, but I hear it's hard to learn. Plus hopefully I'll get to do some Art History. I love Art, way more than history, but it's always been one of my favorite classes. For everyone who's already in college, do you remember feeling this anxious to just go? I can't stop trying to plan every single second of it. I'm a dork I know. I just can't wait to go. P.S. I have a friend that goes to RPI, his name is Mike. He's a freshman too.

Steve- 04-11-2006

I was really nervous about going to college, I guess I was intimidated by the size and the fact that I wouldn't be going to school with a lot of the people I had been going to school with for the last 14 years.

slaygal- 04-12-2006

Wow Jessie - that's heaps good! Congratulations - you must have a real knack for graphic design. I did Graphic Design in highschool and found it really different to say like traditional art. I shared the same feeling with Steve. Only been to uni for about 6 weeks now and it is quite scary, because I didn't know anyone in my courses, the lectures are HUGE and kinda overwhelming. But afterwhile its good and you start seeing some familiar faces. :D It depends on your personality too I guess, like I have friends that were REALLY into uni and that kind of "open" lifestyle that they changed over from highschool to uni really easily.

Jessie- 04-12-2006

thanks :) yeah, i am pretty personable, sometimes i revert into fetal position, but most of the time i can be really social. plus all of my classes are under 20 people so i really hope to get to know everyone :D

Oh hey, BU and Drexel!! I know people who go there! Actually the girl @ BU is one I don't really like and was really annoying but hey, it's a facebook friend, right? Yeah I was TOTALLY anxious to go to college. High school was over and prolly the best thing was focusing on college things...like getting stuff for my room. Bed, Bath and Beyond was my favorite place ever. The first year of college can really change you. If someone told my college friends that I am a quiet, shy person, they'd probably laugh. I just felt so much more at ease with them than I did in high school. And I agree with slaygal, Buffy definitely got me interested in arts. After I figured out how to make my very first banner in 9th grade, that was it, I was hooked, without it I'd prolly want to be a writer or something. Jessie, as I've commented on your LJ, facebook really is your friend. It's how I got to know people, I was friends with kids in my major so when our first class rolled around, I already knew people's names...actually I identified one kid because he looked like the vector he had made of himself which was his facebook picture. (If you ever want to be my friend on facebook, I'm Kristie @ RPI...and I'm not the '06 Alum one) I've made some pretty awesome friends at school...actually I just got back from Boston, visiting a friend who lives near there and another friend who came out from NY to visit her too. It was pretty sweet. Let me tell you, if you have freshman bonding activities? It totally works. The kids I just visiting were from my freshman activity from the few days we were at school before classes started. Also, join activities. I have 3 that I actually care about and attend meetings and crap, Women's Mentoring, Equestrian Team, and RPI Players (our acting troupe). Another thing, WalMart WILL be your best friend as a poor college student. "What?! Sunny D in a 12 pack for $8!!! SWEEEEET!" Plus it's fun to go to the toy aisle, take down a kid's keyboard and play random tunes on them....fun times. SOoo let's see, an update on what's happened at college this year for me: * I had a major crush and we had this almost makeout thing and then we had a fight and then we made up and now we don't talk to eachother often(because he's always away!) even though I still like him. (Have liked him since september btw) * I had a boyfriend for 3 months who was my best friend and then we stalled and we broke up and we're back to best friends again. * I made lots of new friends! * My riding has improved a LOT. * I've made Dean's List both semesters!! * I've only had 2 Bs total for the entire year, the rest were As!!! * For the first time in my life, I got As in math * I've decided to pick up minors in Game Studies and Psychology * I learned that everything I needed to know about General Psych, I learned in High School. * If someone knows me on campus, they know I'm obsessed with Mini Coopers. * If someone knows me on campus, they know I'm obsessed with computer animated movies * If someone knows me on campus, they know I brought a shitload of movies with me, including old Disney tapes and had a collection of something like 80+ movies, all in my room. * If someone knows me on campus, they know I love to sing just about every minute of the day and truly, my life IS a musical. * I'm getting an apartment with my roommate and suitemate! In fact, we already paid rent for this month so we can technically move in!! * My car flooded and my starter died and there were many a battery replacements because the starter was draining the battery so they replaced the starter and it was all good. * I made my first (real life) gay friends and I'm officially a fag hag! I'm sure there's more but let's face it, this post is hella long.

@Kristie- Wow, sounds like you've been busy but things went really well for you so congrats. I never really thought to add facebook friends and get to know people before having them in class and then adding them. Maybe I should do that. Let's see I too finished first year...I got a 3.6 GPA both semesters, and also got accepted into the graphic design program, which I'll start this fall. I didn't join any activities...I don't live in the dorms so I don't want to be down at campus all day, and I have absolutely no time. My art classes load us up with work. That's about all for college updates for me though.

slaygal- 06-25-2006

Wow, Kaylynn - sounds like uni is a blast for you. :) I guess it's really different experience because I don't like on campus - in fact, I have to travel 45 minutes (one way) to get there everyday. And there isn't much of a campus to "hang around" in, well at least the one I go to. It's like smack right in the middle of a city. Congrats on getting in the graphic design program, Steve! Can I just ask: what is facebook? Well, first semester is over for me already. I'm starting Law next semester and I'm SERIOUSLY hoping that all the horror stories I've heard from people about the workload....were just...well, horror stories.

Steve- 06-26-2006

Congrats on getting in the graphic design program, Steve! Can I just ask: what is facebook? Thanks :) Facebook is like I say a cleaner version of myspace. It's just another networking site to help connect students who go or still do go to the same school.

patchi- 06-29-2006

wow, i don't believe I missed this topic..lol anyways...I've just finished sixth form (like college) and finihsed my final A2 exams in history and psychology and as in every exam there is always the question that you dread to come up, and that question came up in both of those exams, so I was like 'Argh!' especially as one of those questions was a 1/3 of the total marks - I tried my best, hope my coursework pulls me through. Now I'm waiting for the results to come through, 17th August, I'm soooo nervous, I have a fair idea what I got in my other subject - Health & Social Care (double award) because its split into units, so you can work out your grade as you go along, but history and psychology...not so sure, but its just the waiting game now. Going to Leeds Met University (Headingly Campus, nearby where most of the england cricket matches are played - not like I'm a fan of cricket but its an excuse to try and get into it, lol) to study Childhood Studies, which combines some of the stuff from two of my subjects I took at A'Level - Health & Social Care, as well as Psychology, as well as other stuff so that should be interesting. That degree can get me into all sorts - social work, play therapist, teaching...and the rest I can't remember because I've misplaced my sheet with all this information on - tut, tut.

Steve- 06-29-2006

Wow, good luck with all of that. I hate waiting for results on important things like that.

slaygal- 06-30-2006

I hate waiting for results on important things like that. Same. My results come out around early July, which is pretty soon! I've been waiting a while and my other uni friends have already received their results, because they handed their final assignments in with stamped envelopes. Unfortunately I was far too lazy/cheap to do that - so I'm sitting here waiting impatiently instead.
